They look for originality, technical competence, and personal voice.<br />Colorado's Gold Key winners are sent to the national level where they compete with Gold Key winners from other states.<br />Regional Awards<br />Award recipients are recognized with "keys" (lapel pins) and certificates at the regional level.<br />Gold Key Awards: Gold Key Awards advance to the national competition.<br />Silver Key Awards<br />Honorable Mention<br />In addition to keys and certificates, more than a dozen Colorado colleges and universities award scholarships to participating seniors.<br />Seniors entering portfolios may apply for the following regional scholarships. These students do not need to register for scholarship consideration.<br />Anderson Ranch Art Center, Aspen CO: Tuition for summer workshop, not including housing/meals.<br />Art Student League, Denver CO: two scholarships, $300 each<br />Bemis School of Art, Colorado Springs CO: $100<br />Sangre de Cristo Art Center, Pueblo CO: one free class<br />Evergreen Art Center: one free class<br />The teacher scholarship program is also new this year and will award one scholarhip to a teacher who enters student work in the competition. The scholarship will provide tuition for the teacher to attend a continuing education class at our host site, Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. Teachers do not need to register for consideratoin.<br />National Awards<br />On the national level, award recipients are recognized with medals, certificates and listing in the national catalog and on the Alliance web site. A selection of national award-winning works of art and writing are included in the national awards catalog each year. National Writing Awards manuscripts are also considered for inclusion in an annual anthology.<br />Portfolio Gold Awards: twelve cash grants of $10,000 are presented in the names of leadership sponsors of the Alliance to graduating seniors<br />Portfolio Silver Awards and Notable Achievement Awards: graduating students awarded to graduating seniors with outstanding portfolios in art and photography are able to leverage an additional $1.5 million in financial aid through a network of eighty prestigious arts institutes, colleges and universities.<br />Teacher Awards: the teachers of students who receive national awards are also honored, including several cash awards presented to teachers who mentor the Portfolio Gold Award recipients or submit an outstanding group of student entries.<br />American Visions &amp; Voices Awards: awarded to single works of art or writing representing each of the regional affiliate programs. Affiliates also select American Visions &amp; Voices Award Nominees as "Best of Show" for their region.<br />National Award recipients are celebrated at the Gala Ceremony held at Carnegie Hall in New York City. A highlights exhibition of select nationally recognized art and writing work will be on display in New York coinciding with the National Celebration events. National Award recipients also receive insight and advice from a variety of professionals in the creative industries through a series of workshops. References were required in order to create the sculpture.
